THE INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR TOURISM ECONOMICS

During the conference the IATE’s Constituent General Assembly will meet. Some of the aims of the IATE are to contribute to the development and application of tourism economics as a science, to promote contacts between teachers, researchers, students and institutions interested in the field of tourism economics and to improve communication between tourism economics and other fields in economics.

CONFERENCE AND ORGANIZERS’ BACKGROUND

Scholars in the field of tourism economics have become familiar with a few important conferences which took place in the last three years, namely the Tourism Modelling and Competitiveness Conferences (TTRI, University of Nottingham, 2003-2005), the Tourism and Sustainable Economic Development Conferences (CRENoS/FEEM, University of Cagliari and Sassari, 2003-2005) and the First and Second International Conferences on Tourism Economics (University of the Balearic Islands, 2004-2006). The success of these initiatives has convinced the organizers to be involved in a larger-scale enterprise which is the First IATE Conference.
