The Sun is a plasma laboratory which allows us to understand the basic principles which govern the behaviour of other stars and the cosmic plasma, and which displays phenomena whose scales and energies can not be attained in terrestrial laboratories.
Starting in 2009, the following research groups from Belgium, UK, and Spain (hence BUKS):
The Centre for Plasma Astrophysics, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium
The Solar Physics and Space Plasma Research Centre, University of Sheffield, UK
The Solar and Magnetospheric Theory Group, University of St Andrews, UK
The Centre for Fusion, Space and Astrophysics, University of Warwick, UK
The Solar Physics Group, Universitat de les Illes Balears, Spain
The Astrophysics Research Centre, Queen’s University Belfast, UK
took the initiative to organise a series of open and informal workshops on MHD waves and Seismology of the Solar Atmosphere. BUKS2009 was held in Leuven, BUKS2010 took place in St. Andrews while BUKS2011 will take place in Palma de Mallorca. The aim of these Workshops is to exchange advanced results on observations, data analysis and theoretical and numerical modelling regarding the seismology of MHD waves in the solar atmosphere. During the workshops, the current open questions and required future research directions will be discussed. All researchers, active in this field, are warmly welcomed to attend.
Please, notice that the Fifth Coronal Loops Workshop will be held in Palma de Mallorca from 29 June to July 2, 2011. A joint session will take place on 29 June afternoon
