We are pleased to announce that the 5th Congress on Plant Conservation Biology will take place on September 28th, 29th, 30th and October 1st 2011 in Es Mercadal (Menorca) It will be organized by the University of the Balearic Islands’ Botanical Unit and the Sociedad Española de Biología de Conservación de Plantas (the Spanish Association for Plant Conservation Biology or SEBCP according to its Spanish acronym).
The event will also count on the support of the regional and local authorities, together with organizations associated with nature research and conservation in the Balearics in general and Minorca in particular.
The congress will be dedicated to all subjects in the field of plant conservation biology - demographics, reproductive biology, monitoring etc – with special emphasis on problems related to insularity, the evaluation and monitoring of plant biodiversity, the conservation of cryptogams, and experiences relating to the conservation of endangered plant species.
As usual, there will be oral and poster presentations and a conference by a guest speaker for each of the sessions. The organizers also plan to hold parallel sessions to discuss specific issues in the fields of plant conservation research, management and strategies. In the second circular (March 2011), an in-depth programme will be given, and registration for the event will be opened, together with the reservation of accommodation.
Es Mercadal is a small town in the middle of the island, set in natural surroundings at the foot of the island’s biggest peak. It will thus offer a very fitting setting for the theme of the congress.
We look forward to seeing you in Minorca next September!
