The Spanish-Portuguese Association of Natural Resources and Environmental Economics (AERNA) is organizing its third congress, which will be held in June 2008 and is directed to researchers in the field in order to foster interactions among them. Past editions of the congress have brought together more than a hundred researchers from different Universities and Research Centres in Spain and Portugal whose interest is focused on issues related to the study of the interconnectedness between economic and ecological systems, as well as European researchers that seek to come together to exchange scientific knowledge.
AERNA was founded in 2002 as a response to the increasing, international interest in Natural Resources and Environmental Economics and to the motivation of a group of academics and researchers in Spain and Portugal working on this field. Nowadays, AERNA is joined by more than 90% of Spanish and Portuguese practitioners within the framework of Natural Resources and Environmental Economics.
This Association has chosen Palma de Mallorca as the venue for the congress in support of the group of researchers at the University of Balearic Islands (UIB) working on this field and also due to the privileged location of the coastal city in the Mediterranean Sea.
The Congress is organized by the Economic Research Centre (UIB· SA NOSTRA), one of whose main research lines is focused on Environmental Economics, and in which a training programme within the framework of the «UNESCO/SA NOSTRA Chair in Business Management and Environment» is carried out.
