Acquisition of passive and impersonal se by Dutch L2 learners of Spanish
Speaker: Sergio Baauw, Universiteit Utrecht
Authors: Sergio Baauw & Stephanie van Breugel
18 Dutch students of Spanish were tested on their mastery of Spanish impersonal and passive se-constructions. The results indicate that they do not analyze these constructions in a target like way. In fact, they seem to analyse se not as passive morphology, but as a kind of impersonal third plural pronoun, similar to Dutch ze (they). This points at transfer from de L1, in a way predicted by Hulk & Van der Linden (1998) and Hulk & Muller (2001) for bilingual acquisition.
