The knowledge about the communicative language development patterns is very important because it makes possible to diagnose and to monitor the language development in children who can be at risk of language delays. In this poster, the results of a study which main aim was to analyze and describe the communicative language development patterns in European Portuguese infants´ will be presented. The European Portuguese adaptation of the MacArthur-Bates Communicative Development Inventory: words and gestures (PT-CDI: WG) was used for data collection. The PT-CDI: WG is a parent report instrument for infants´ between 8 and 15 months, that assesses gestures and lexical development competences. A longitudinal design was used: the parents´ reports of 67 children were collected, across three different moments in time (9 months of age – 12 months of age – 15 months of age). Data analysis will be done in two steps: first the issue of linear and /or non-linear change in language acquisition will be modeled from a multilevel perspective and then inter-individual differences in intra-individual change trajectories will be studied from a tracking perspective, which means the study of the maintenance of children´s relative positions in their language acquisition within their groups changes across time. These findings are discussed in terms of inter-individual differences and intra-individual changes in the gestures and communicative development path.
